Accelerating the change to net zero....

It's probably fair to say, even for an industry that is used to constant change and an ever evolving range of products, the advent of battery electric vehicles has presented some unique challenges!

When your primary goal is to make sales, be that for a product or service, it's much easier if a natural demand exists that has been driven by the consumer. However in this instance, at least initially, that change has been led by legislation rather than by what the customer has asked for. As such the transition to new energy mobility solutions isn't always proving to be a smooth one.

Not only are potential customers unsure as to why these changes are happening but those who must help these very same customers are very often unsure of the benefits themselves through a lack of knowledge on 'everything EV'.

There are also a lot of myths around EVs that have almost become facts, and this could be because none of us really like change or leaving our comfort zone - after all it is getting on for some 150 years since the advent of the internal combustion engine (ICE), so we've had plenty of time to get used to it as the primary source of  power for our vehicles.

Equally there are some, shall we say, very enthusiastic supporters of BEVs, who are also keen to override those with a different opinion. The truth is that there are lots of advantages to EVs and they will work for a lot more people than currently think so. However, they won't work for everyone right now and it's our job to find out who could be better off through moving over to an EV.

It's not the aim here to debunk every myth and quote every fact but here's some food for thought...... Over 80% of charging is carried out at home or at work.....there are now over 70,000 public charge points in the UK.....the average daily commute is less than 20 miles.....current average range for new EVs is 250 miles....if you can charge at home on an overnight tariff it could cost as little as 2p per mile as opposed to 17-19p for an ICE at current pump prices.....circa 34,000,000 ICE cars are serviced by less than 9,000 fuel stations...and finally battery degradation is proving to be far less than originally thought, which means the battery may well outlast the rest of the car!!

However, here's the thing, I don't think I've ever successfully sold a car to a customer by constantly proving them wrong! It's also a lot for anybody thinking of changing vehicles and powertrains to take on board. And that's where we can help. With a real knowledge on everything EV and how that all fits in to the sales environment, we're sure we can help clients to help customers make informed decisions.
